ATTRACTIONS ON LAKE KARIBA
What to do in lake Kariba? The main draw cards to Kariba are Game viewing, Birdwatching, Fishing and the water activities. In each of these areas it excels beyond normal expectations. These Kariba activities can be done whether you are staying in a fancy safari lodge, on a... houseboat or in Siavonga town. There are a couple of must do Kariba activities perfect just for you. One is to see the Kariba dam wall which is very impressive. There is a view point about above the wall where one gets an excellent view, if any of the flood gates are open then the view is even more spectacular.
But Kariba is also not just about action packed adventure, it’s also about relaxation and escaping from the city life. It really is an idyllic, lazy, hot spot in the sun, where one goes to unwind, lie on a sun lounger, read a book and sip on cold gin and tonics while taking in the unforgettable scenery. Annual events here include the Kariba Marathon and the International tiger fishing tournament.
The Lwiindi traditional ceremony is an annual ancient Tonga cultural ceremony to honour the spirits of the ancestors and celebrate the onset of a new rainy season. The ceremony takes place late November or early December. Worth putting in your diary.

VISIT SIAVONGA TOWN, GETTING TO LAKE KARIBA
The extraordinary town of Siavonga lies on the edge of the beautiful Lake Kariba, with stunning panoramic views of the lake, making this a very popular retreat for families, holiday makers and a choice destination for business gatherings and company... outings. It is also becoming popular as a second home getaways. Snuggly situated on the north shore of Lake Kariba, it is the second largest tourist destination and resort to visit in Southern Province. The Siavonga town is only two and a half hours from Lusaka, as you drive you will pass through beautiful mountain scapes as a bonus on your exciting journey to Kariba. From Lusaka, it's an easy 2.5 hour drive to Siavonga through the beautifully scenic Zambezi Rift Valley. Take the T2 to Chirundu and turn right onto the M15, 18km before the Zimbabwe border. From Harare, take the turnoff to Kariba and cross over the dam wall to Siavonga. An airstrip does exist at Siavonga but is unmanned.
